Why writing

What putting it on paper actually does

Not a substitute for therapy, and not a mood tracker. Writing does something specific in depth-oriented work, and it is worth knowing what before you start.

It slows the loop
A thought going round at two in the morning is faster than you are. Written down it has to hold still long enough to be looked at, which is usually the first time it stops running the room.
It separates you from it
There is a difference between being inside a feeling and reading a sentence about one. That small distance is where most of the useful work happens, and a page creates it for free.
It finds the pattern
One entry is a bad evening. Ten entries are a shape. Patterns you cannot see from inside a week become obvious across a month, and patterns are what therapy actually works on.
It gives you words for the room
Plenty of people arrive at a first session and cannot find the sentence. Having written it down once already means you are not starting from silence.

Who it tends to help

If any of this sounds like your week

Carrying something old

Something that happened is still deciding how today goes. Writing is a way to approach it at your own pace rather than all at once.

Healing trauma

Never quite enough

The standard moves every time you reach it, and rest feels like something you have to earn. The page is one place the standard does not apply.

Inner pressures

Between two worlds

What you owe your family and what you want for yourself do not point the same way. Writing lets you hold both without having to choose out loud yet.

Cultural dynamics

Get the guide

Two fields, then it is yours

We ask for a first name and an email address. Here is exactly what that means, so there is no surprise later.

The guide downloads right here. No waiting on an email and no checking your junk folder. We will send a copy to your inbox as well, so you always have it.

You are not signing up for therapy. Downloading this starts nothing clinical. No file is opened on you and no clinician is assigned.

Leave whenever you like. Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link, and using it removes you completely.

Download the guide

Two fields, and the download starts on this page.

The download starts as soon as you submit. We will also email you a copy and the occasional note from the practice. Unsubscribe any time. Read our privacy policy.

If writing gets you to the edge of something

That is usually the point to stop writing and talk to a person. Twenty minutes, free, and there is nothing to prepare.
